Why are any of us here?

Without which no future posts would have photo confirmation.

Today the saga seems to be coming to a close.  I had confirmation that I (mostly) got things right in the facebook album and (probably) won't be in any trouble for my shenanigans. And I got a new phone!  Which is a weight off my mind and felt like as good a time as any to try and get you all to move from my Facebook and Twitter (and oddly enough, Pinterest) over to my blog.

What can you expect on this blog?  Well it is without particular categorization - not exclusive cat videos or adorable things my kid said, and it's not all adventures my phone goes on (but if I start to lose readers I'm not above having it stolen again at say IBM or PepsiCo and posting the hilarity that ensues there).  I think mostly it will try to be a humorous look at the way my day has gone and my trying to right the wrongs of the universe. So expect a lot of:

Tirades about people who don't use their blinkers!
What's the deal with airport security?!
and
Look at this video of my kid talking about a cat video!

So feel free to poke around here for a little while.  There are a few older posts and a couple of other pages of truly compelling info on me and FAQs.  I'll give you a taste here so you know what's coming.

Q: Are you going to friend Nelson on Facebook?
A: No, but if he friends me I'll totally accept.

Q: Did you get your phone back?
A: XXX the a XXXXXX! XXX to XXXX is to XXXX XXX XXXXXXX XXX.  XXX are XXXXXX be XXXX, XXXX.  (Response redacted by law enforcement).

Q: Do you care about anyone but yourself?
A:  Of course!  Write me and I will respond, unless you're a dick.

Q: Will you ever take a Disney Cruise again?
A: My kid has already booked her next three spring breaks on a Disney cruise and will be studying under the Disney Princess fellowship this fall.

Of course, if I'm being honest then 99% of you are reading this because of the Facebook album "Stolen iPhone Adventures."  That's fine, maybe I'll be the Bobby McFerrin of comedic commentary on the internet so every 15th post I'll repost the album with one or two new photos or as a slide show set to new music, just so I can bask in the sweet sweet attention again.

So, without further ado, here is the album, plus one eye-patched pirate skull.

This is Nelson.  Nelson has my stolen iPhone.

This is Nelson's Girlfriend.

Apparently she works in the spa.

Nelson likes to take photos of buildings in Mexico with stolen phones.

He also likes to take photos of Cabo San Lucas.

...and his super cool friends.

These are some of Nelson's friends and crewmates on board the Disney Wonder.

Here are some more of his friends...

...gosh they look like a cool group of folks...

...very chill.

Here's the dining room that Nelson likes to eat in.

Here's a bird Nelson needed a photo of.

And here's a beautiful sunset Nelson had time to capture, all on my stolen iPhone.

Nelson also likes to party!  And who's that?  Why that's the co captain of the Disney Wonder!  Sure looks like they had a swell time.

Uh oh.  Nelson's girlfriend does not look happy with him.  I understand the feeling.

Maybe she saw him pose with these two pirate hookers on board the Disney Wonder.  No denying it Nelson, that's your name tag, isn't it?!

I guess she got over it though...

...and went on to celebrate with him and the rest of the Disney Wonder castmembers and my stolen phone.

Cheers to you Nelson!

You are a modern day pirate, like this lifelike skull they have on a family cruise.

And cheers to you Disney Wonder whom Nelson loves enough to photo-document his entire life with, using my stolen phone.

    1. I think the pictures started automatically posting on her live Facebook feed as part of the whole iCloud thing. Can you imagine??? I'm probably using the wrong terminology..lol..but it's fascinating that technology can do that. And how it can bite you in the butt. (I'm looking at you, Nelson.)

    2. I'm going to try and get an apple guy on here to guest blog a post since, admittedly, I don't know a lot about how "The Cloud" works. There is a function on your phone that allows some of your photos to automatically be sent to your Cloud account - meaning you don't have to save them to your computer to have them for ever and ever. However, you do need to have the phone connected to a wireless service for that ssending to happen. As I've mentioned, when on the boat there is not cost-effective wireless service so my phone was all but turned off - why I couldn't use find my phone or remote wipe or any of those handy things that apple provides you. When the phone was reactivated for a short time, long after it was taken, those photos, both mine and his, had a chance to stream to my cloud. The rest you know.

  2. Outstanding, Katy! And good for you for sending people over to your blog. Hope something great comes from the annoyance of having your iPhone stolen.

  3. Katy, you should add a link to this blog post as part of the description in all of your "Stolen iPhone" Facebook photos. it's a marketing tactic i use for my clients to help drive traffic.

  4. Why didn't you use "find my iPhone" and lock the device after it went missing?

  5. What a RIOT!! Good for you for outing your IPhone thief. I hope the folks at Disney reimbursed you for the phone, and gave you free passes. Yeah, I'm one of the 99% who came over after seeing your photos, but even with only 5 blog post, your blog is better than most I've seen.

    1. The guys at Disney were really nice about...ALL of it. Thanks for reading, and liking. I hope to keep you entertained, or at least, mildly distracted...

  6. No answers from Katy? I'd like to know how did they steal her iPhone? Wast it at gun point? Or did a cruise employee broke into her room and took it? Life is usually boring, so perhaps Katy simply misplaced it and the person who found it kept it illegally.

  7. Katy- Yep, I'm a 99%er and just wanted to say "Thank you"! I can appreciate your frustration with the "loss" of the phone, but wow, did you ever brighten my day. I've been reading your comments and laughing like there is no tomorrow. Thanks for sharing both your saga and your wonderful wit!

  8. Katy, this is what I understood from reading the Yahoo news piece and your FB album:
-You lost your phone during a Disney cruise last April (how exactly did you lose it?)
-At the end of May someone started taking pictures with your phone, and you found out b/c your phone is set up to automatically upload pictures to iCloud
-Have you wondered what happened to your phone from the time you lost it until the pics showed up? It was perhaps over a month?
-The guy taking the pictures appears to be Nelson, who happens to work in the same boat
-Is it possible that the phone changed hands at least once between April and May? Meaning, maybe Nelson thought he was buying a legitimate used phone from a coworker? In any case, how come no one used your phone for so long?
-The pictures in your FB album show Nelson's coworkers. You call some of the girls "hookers". They are all obviously cruise staff. All they are guilty of, is of being Nelson's coworkers.

    1. @CarlaZ - "pirate hooker" is a Ron Burgundy quote, one which the author is obviously a fan of (judging from other RB references), not necessarily their job descriptions... lol thx for the laugh though!

    2. You're right "Unknown". I'm surprised that was actually in question, but OK, my bad there.

@CarlaZ you raise a lot of good and FAQs - even if they're somewhat hostile. I promise when I know every fact from all the people who are involved and who have asked to weigh in, I will share them all here.

  10. I LOVE it!!!! Classic! The only reason anyone would be upset with you for posting your pics from Nelson, is because they themselves are thieves and are sticking up for the criminal! Technology is finally helping the victims instead of just being used by the scum of the earth! I am glad your phone was replaced and I hope you continue to entertain us with your blog!

God bless you and Nelson. (I think he needs prayer!)

    2. No, I think this is just another case of someone using the Internet as a broadcasting platform to spread their version of the truth and promote their own agenda...yes, a blog in this case. But hey, it's working because look where I'm leaving this comment.

All this seems like high school tattling. Take the pictures to the police and shut your mouth about it. If he did steal it, he'll face the penalties. No reason to drag his friends or girlfriend into it just because he pulled one over on you.

    3. Hey Franko..You're just jealous...lol. This is funny. It's called making ice cream out of horseshit. That's the only agenda I see happening here. So stop being a douchebag and find something legitimate to whine about. Cause right now you're kinda making me think your name just means you're a big fat wiener...thanks for sharing Katy ; )

  11. Absolutely hysterical. Love the deadpan captions. Makes me want to leave my phone somewhere just to see what happens.

Everyone knows pirate hookers are the best kinds of pirates. They don't steal stuff, like other pirates; they're selling something, which makes them the closest thing to capitalists in the whole pirate population.

    Great work!

  12. Hi Katy,

I love your story. I shared it on FB! I have my own saga of a found/stolen phone and how I got it back. I tried to type it here but it's more than 4096 characters so livejournal won't let me :-(

    1. This is great! I'm starting to get a lot of people telling me their own lost phone stories and I was thinking of adding a page to this blog where people could post them. Can I kick that off with your story?

  15. This was sooooo funny. Sorry your iphone got stolen on your Disney cruise though. It's amazing to me that people gave to flack. Especially the dude claiming you were promoting some "agenda" by posting pictures that were taken on your stolen iphone. I'm pretty sure the only type of people who would actually be pissed about that are people who have gotten in trouble for doing similar crap before, and are all offended that people would dare make it public and embarrassing for them. Give me a break!

  16. We just got back from the Pacific coast cruise on the Wonder and I admit, after reading your blog this summer, to leaving my iphone laying around in hopes it would be stolen and i could get a new iphone 5... but, Alas.

I looked for Nelson and his girlfriend, but neither of them appeared to be on board...;)
